Matt Books recording session
Since I don’t have a whole lot to post about right now, I thought I’d share with you all a few audio clips from the Spatula Madness dialogue recording sessions we did a while back. This is from the session with my friend Matt Books, who voices a couple characters in the movie. He has an awesome and varied voice.
This is mostly out-take stuff that isn’t actually used in the movie:

June 30th, 2007 at 1:00 am
dfera331 - I do most the voices in the movie, including Edward, Max, Tom, etc.
June 30th, 2007 at 1:28 am
Ha ha ha… This is just bizarre.
June 30th, 2007 at 3:14 am
Hmm, I’ll have to listen to it later, I think I’ve exceeded the download limit for this month…. Who’s this Matt Books character?
June 30th, 2007 at 6:55 am
I didn’t think the lost Episode 11 was as bad as you said. Then again, I’ll probably never listen to it again, but that’s not the point!
June 30th, 2007 at 12:43 pm
this movie will definitly be awesome. I want to here some of yours and Robert’s voices
June 30th, 2007 at 1:27 pm
wow….so just how much work got done that day?
June 30th, 2007 at 1:39 pm

June 30th, 2007 at 2:38 pm
Kek sphere - that’s me.
June 30th, 2007 at 4:18 pm
He does a pretty good Mr. Mackey voice.
Also…
“LOUDER! LOUDER!!”
June 30th, 2007 at 5:02 pm
WOWZERS! Do you put the voices in before the animating? Does it matter?
June 30th, 2007 at 5:09 pm
I record the voices first, then lay them out as a “radio play” kind of thing, where it’s basically the whole scene in audio format. Then I animate to the audio.
June 30th, 2007 at 6:39 pm
whoa, I didnt realize your voice was capable of doing edward. haha that’s why I asked. It doesnt really sound like you…but I guess that’s a good thing!
July 1st, 2007 at 1:08 am
Who did Matt do in the original short?
July 1st, 2007 at 1:39 am
LoonieBin - no one, I did every voice in the original.
July 1st, 2007 at 7:28 am
This is very exciting for the release of the movie… if only there was an expected release date. The last expected date was like 8 months ago, so it’s hard to know how close this project is.

Wow, Matt is a pretty good voice actor.
I like the mad Scottish Man Voice
July 1st, 2007 at 12:50 pm
LOL!!! That was hilarious!! I was laughing so hard, I don’t know if I’ll be able to survive through the whole movie! XD
I had no idea Matt could do all those voices!
July 1st, 2007 at 1:45 pm

July 1st, 2007 at 1:52 pm
Toonsvi - I use a Shure SM7b.
July 1st, 2007 at 2:03 pm
Ha, those are funny. I just can’t wait till the movie comes out! Then, I think that applies to everyone here. Don’t stop the funny Jason! Don’t stop the funny.

July 2nd, 2007 at 4:11 am
Don’t stop the funny, Jason. That would be cruel. Matt Books wil forever be in my heart.
Because I’m going to get surgery to convert my heart into a second stomache, eat him, and put it on the mantle.

Oops, the anonymous comment was me. Sorry about that.
July 4th, 2007 at 2:41 am
Wait, this was at your house, right Jason? You should purposely empty your fridge of everthing except whole milk and cheese next time he’s there.
July 4th, 2007 at 11:01 am
Gorillas.
July 4th, 2007 at 12:23 pm
This is hilarious! I was literally in tears laughing! “I’ve been drinking a little bit.”
Oh, and great idea, Brownie!

July 5th, 2007 at 7:42 pm
Wow, your mic recording quality is brilliant.
Whenever i record anything all i can hear is pure static in the background.
July 5th, 2007 at 10:30 pm
Snazzy!
July 6th, 2007 at 2:05 am
ha ha haaaaaa. thats funny.

July 6th, 2007 at 2:18 pm
yeah I have a question who did the voice of the the random girl in edward’s house in the original?
July 6th, 2007 at 8:00 pm
Is there a mic i can buy that is alot cheaper than the “Shure SM7B,” but still has good quality for an animation?
July 7th, 2007 at 8:31 am
It’s my birthday YAY!
July 8th, 2007 at 9:28 am
Funniest audio clip I have ever listened to, bar none.
July 8th, 2007 at 9:23 pm
DrGie - I did that voice as well.
toodle - The Shure Beta 58A and Shure SM58 are both good, but keep in mind for all good mics you’ll also need an audio box to connect the mic to your computer, which is going to be another hundred bucks at least.
July 8th, 2007 at 10:42 pm
toodle - I use the MXL USB .006 microphone and it’s pretty good. It costs $125 on amazon.com
http://www.amazon.com/MXL-MXLUSB-006-Powered-Condenser-Microphone/dp/B000JUFEDO/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-5652683-2551953?ie=UTF8&s=musical-instruments&qid=1183948810&sr=8-1
It still costs a lot, but not as much as Jason’s Shure mic.
July 9th, 2007 at 6:50 am
hmmm… thats interesting jason.
July 11th, 2007 at 4:11 pm
so jason havew you seen transformers yet?
July 11th, 2007 at 9:12 pm
Hey, Jason, How did you make “Hangin’s out at the grill”?
July 12th, 2007 at 5:08 am
Yeh, Jase, how did you put the mouths on for Hangin Out at the Grill
July 14th, 2007 at 12:58 pm
jason- The Shure Beta 58A and Shure SM58 are both good, but keep in mind for all good mics you’ll also need an audio box to connect the mic to your computer, which is going to be another hundred bucks at least.
toodle-The Shure SM58 looks great! but what type of audio box do you recommend for it?
July 14th, 2007 at 3:06 pm
Toodle - Go to Amazon.com and search for “M-Audio MobilePre.”
They have it for 120 with free shipping.

July 16th, 2007 at 3:53 pm
Jason, What software are you using to animate Spatula Madness. Can’t wait for it to come out.
July 16th, 2007 at 9:35 pm
thanks. i think that combo (shure sm58; M-Audio Mobile Pre USB Mobile Preamp and Audio Interface) for $220 is better than your mic for $350.
Would this be enough (for vocals) when making an animation on a iMac?
